Phone calling your MP can sound hard, but its actually easy—it just takes a little bit of sleuthing.
Chances are that when you call, your MP won’t be there, but that’s ok. One of their staffers will take your message and will make sure it gets through to your MP.
What should I say?
Talking to your MP is just like talking to anyone else. Your MP will want to know who you are, and why you’re calling, and they might also ask for a way to keep in touch with you.
Here are some points that you might like to tell your MP:
- I’m a member of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition
- I care about climate change, and I support the proposal to have a price tag on pollution by 1 July 2012—it’s a great first step!
- At the same time, I think its important that the price tag is high enough to actually make a difference
- I’ll be working with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition throughout the year to continue generating support for action on climate change
