Our experience at AYCC has been that resources are best utilised when they are embedded into a campaign enivironment. Trainings are most effective when they are focused on an outcome, and when they are designed with a purpose in mind. Participants use online resources most effectively when they are embedded into social media and into a broader campaign website – this creates an incentive for participants to regularly return to the website and to use resources on a more regular basis. On this page you will find some examples of trainings which have been modified for a specific campaign.
Power Shift 2011 Resources
Power Shift 2011 is our most recent attempt at delivering an effective training program. Power Shift 2011 is AYCC’s peak youth mobilisation for 2011. It is two youth summits, one for 1,000+ people in Brisbane and another for 300+ people in Perth. To promote Power Shift, AYCC recruited 100 ‘Field Coordinators’ – young people who signed up to be part of an eight week promotional campaign. To train the Field Coordinators AYCC held a 2 day training camp, and to provide ongoing support to the Field Coordinators AYCC developed an online resource hub called ‘Field HQ’.
Our focus for Field HQ was twofold:
- Create an online space where Field Coordinators could share learnings and achievements
- Create an online space where Field Coordinators would go to download resources and training materials
These two aims were mutually beneficial. Providing an online space for Field Coordinators to share their achievements incentivised use of Field HQ, and therefore helped drive traffic to the resource page. At the same time, as new Resources were uploaded, the sharing space was used to promote them and to get feedback.
