Youth Decide at The University of Melbourne

AYCC Unimelb is planning a huge Youth Decide week on campus. As our club has grown, we now have around 20 regular volunteers. This has allowed us to plan a very ambitious event.

We will run a stall during lunch everyday from Monday through Friday! The stall will be more than a polling centre; there will be food, lollies, banners, posters, and a running tally of how many people have voted. We aim to obtain actual polling booths to add to the theatrics. There will also be volunteers roaming with laptops and iPads to target as many people are possible and other volunteers engaging in upbeat conversations about renewable energy!

Not only will we be running the lunchtime stalls, but we also aim to run small voting booths at other university events such as Play with your Food dinner and Ride to Uni breakfasts. We are also contacting all the residential colleges and asking them to hold their own Youth Decide events.

It’s great supporting such an established group! Friendships are strong and meetings feel more like catch-up sessions. Yet the meetings are still very productive. Most of the volunteers were involved in organising the Repower Trivia Night we held last semester and are excited to run another event, this time engaging many more people. With 1.5 weeks to go, there is excitement in the air and I’m sure we will reach our goal of 500 votes!

There is still time to organise an event at your uni – register today here
