Power Shift 2011

The rumours are true: Power Shift is coming!

In October this year, we’re going to bring together over 1,000 young people in Brisbane and Perth for two amazing Power Shift conferences. This will be the biggest youth mobilisation that has ever been attempted in either city – and we can’t wait to make it happen!

The Power Shift story starts in Australia in 2009. The AYCC was barely a year old, and it was an event on a scale we’d never previously attempted: a three day summit to inspire, empower and activate 1,000 young people.

There were those who doubted we could do it, and who warned us against trying. But as the AYCC so often does, we decided to throw caution to the wind and attempt what seemed impossible.

And it was the best decision we ever made. Here is what happened.

If this was what we did in 2009, just imagine what we will achieve in 2011.

Since Power Shift 2009, The AYCC has grown from 5,000 members to over 60,000. We now have a grassroots network that spans the country – from Tasmania to Darwin and everywhere in between. We have run political campaigns that have captured the nation’s imagination, and empowered thousands of young people from all over Australia.

There’s one thing we can be certain of: Power Shift 2011 is going to be big.

We’re currently building a team of Australia’s most capable, dynamic and inspirational organisers, who will work together to deliver Power Shift 2011. For more information, click here. And we’ll be selecting 100 young people to take part in an incredible journey in the lead up to Power Shift, bringing the Power Shift story to their local communities. Applications will open in a couple of weeks – so stay tuned!
