The AYCC Climate Reality is only 3 weeks away, and students at Uni Melbourne have already gotten started. The students banner makes it clear-as-day to people in CBD Melbourne that we need to face climate reality. Here at AYCC headquarters we’re excited to see what everyone comes up with and how many people they reach. Student volunteers in Canberra are planning several schools talks for the week, and they sent in this exciting update:
“We are getting 6 schools in Canberra to each make a human sign using one word in the slogan “Climate Change: You Can’t Escape Reality”. We are going to get a plane to fly over head and film them and put them together into the slogan (we are going to offset the emissions using Greening Australia’s “Breathe Easy” program)”
Climate Reality Week is picking up steam in the media. AYCC General Manager Ellen Sandell had an article published in The Age last week about the international climate negotiations in Bonn last week, and finished with a plug for Climate Reality Week. She concludes with this amazing call to action:
“Last week the Australian Youth Climate Coalition launched the “Climate Reality Week” campaign. Armed with a new animation and myth-busting fact sheet, young people across the country will be fighting against misinformation and the policy vacuum, educating their communities about the need for climate action. Expect to see banners draped over bridges, young people pounding the streets and presentations at your local community centre.
Australia’s youth want to leave behind the political posturing and get to work.
The best time to act on climate change was 10 years ago. The second best time was before Copenhagen. The third best time is now.”
Together, we’re pushing back against climate change denial on the streets and in the media, in our schools and to our friends. We are the people who will mobilise our world to action, we just need to get out and do it. To mobilise our friends and family around the need for climate action, check out the amazing resources the AYCC is producing and expanding on every week.
