Five days have blown by since the Higgins and Bradfield by-elections – five of the busiest, most exciting days we’ve seen in the Melbourne office. Copenhagen has finally arrived and scarcely an hour goes by without a scandal erupting, a politician pontificating or a good old-fashioned shindig.
Climate change is definitely on everyone’s mind. Copenhagen might be bursting at the seams with young people taking action, but there are still plenty of opportunities to make the message heard back home! The next big event is Walk Against Warming this Saturday the 12th.
Walk Against Warming is the Big Cheese of climate events in Australia, attracting thousands of people across the country each year. Once again there will be walks in every capital city, and once again we’ll be at the Melbourne and Sydney ones ones rockin’ our signature blue tees and banners.
If you’ve never done the walk, this year is the year to get involved. Between Kevin Rudd’s sneaky role in an inequitable alternate treaty and the introduction of our charming new Opposition Leader, Tony “climate change is crap” Abbot, there has never been a better or more important time to tell the Government what you want.
If you live in Melbourne or Sydney, check out our plans for those two events (and watch our new COP update video!) here: http://www.aycc.org.au/2009/11/27/walk-against-warming-09/
If you live elsewhere, don’t panic! Head on over to the Walk Against Warming site and find the event in your closest capital city. Bring your mates and a blue and represent!
Walk Against Warming is as easy as it gets: rock up with some friends, head down the street and have some fun. It’s also one of the best things you can do this year.
See you there!
