We at the Australian Youth Climate Coalition are powering along after our National Council meeting where representatives from our member and partner groups came along and decided upon the future direction of the AYCC.
Before the meeting, we held our first ever wine & cheese evening at our office in Elizabeth St. Around 60 people attended; John Connor, CEO of the Climate Institute, gave a speech, and Anna Rose, Amanda McKenzie & Richie Merzian gave a presentation about AYCC’s current activities.
At the meeting itself, we debated proposals around a national youth climate summit, finalised proposals around operating more effectively as a coalition, and finalized our strategic plan. We also had discussions about future directions of our schools project, and a few other projects we’re getting off the ground.
Here were some comments from the evaluation at the end.
“Level of professionalism has been outstanding and inspirational”
“The diversity in the room – of people, organisations and also in opinions, is a great strength of the coalition.”
“Amazing level of respect, discussion, and willingness to engage.”
Since our last update, AYCC schools conferences & youth climate messenger trainings have been held in Lismore & Toowomba, Sydney, Beaudesert, & Adelaide. The schools team have designed a funky “climate commitment card” in partnership with AVANT create stronger relationships with high school students, especially in places we don’t have yet people on the ground. The cards will reach at least 25,000 students by the end of November.
We have also finished selecting an amazing team of 23 young people aged 16 -26 from a huge number of applicants to make up the Australian Youth Delegation to the UN Climate Talks in Poznan (in Poland) this December.
Finally – as you may have noticed – we have re-designed our website – thanks to the dedication of our amazing designer Jarra McGrath.
